Secrets

Some are funny, some are scary, some are going to haunt me, and some are very sad.

You should definitely go see and even mail in a card. I'd like to.

Yummy

Banana mascarpone cake (from this month's issue of Food and Wine)

Mom's cinnamon bread

Now that Easter is over there really can't be any holidays until after the summer that are cause for eating candy and sweets! Seriously I'll never get into a bathing suit if this keeps up. Now it's time to up the veggies and start cooking lighter.

(Sorry about the photo problems lately - it seems now I can't get a handle on Flickr or Hello which just plain sucks and is driving me up a wall.)

Easy screenprinting!

I am so excited to try this! Here is a link to a tutorial for screenprinting that only requires glue, an embroidery hoop, ink, and an old pair of stockings or a piece of screen material. It looks so easy and so much better than the stencil way. I've never tried to screenprint anything but have been wanting to for a while. Found via kottke.org - a great souce for interesting links.

Happy Easter!

So my mom is here and making herself at home in the guest bedroom (well, technically her bedroom for the next few months) and the kitchen extravaganza has already started. We hit the totally awesome and amazing San Francisco farmers market this morning and have homemade cinnamon bread in the oven (which smells divine!), leftovers of our herb and port gravy potroast in the crockpot, and are making plans for the pork roast and twice-baked potatoes we'll have tomorrow, with a banana and mascarpone frosting cake for dessert. (And I am single-handedly finishing off the cupcakes I made a few days ago - just as a favor to Greg and my mom so they have room for the other goodies.)

Cupcakes

The cutest cupcake holders ever!

More (with babies!)

So no, I haven't gotten all of the felt rabbits out of my system yet, but I think these may be the last ones or the second to last ones!

Striped butts instead of the funny poof things (Greg kept saying my other ones looked like they were farting! Typical male vs. female perspective - I think cute tail poof, he thinks fart poof.)

Haremail

Heading off to the PO to mail my Easter packages. I don't know how successful I was at not eating too much chocolate while filling these boxes but I did have a very tasty weekend! Little Dove dark chocolate eggs and bite-size Reeses white chocolate peanut butter eggs. . .Mmmmmmmmm!

Primavera

Dinner tonight - my version of a chicken primavera recipe from the Cooking Light cookbook. It was delicious. I cook and bake all the time, but I rarely think the results are that great so I was pleased that this turned out well.

A little embarrassment never hurt anyone, right?

Right?

So last night Greg and I went to a fundraiser for our friend's kid's school and it was a silent auction and dinner thing with an 80's theme. We decided a few hours beforehand that we should make the effort to actually go in style, so we went on a treasure hunt in our house to come up with outfits. I'm still not sure I should be so freely giving away photos that could easily be used for future blackmailing purposes by random internet folk but here they are anyway!

The silent auction was pretty good and I came home with tickets to SFMOMA, a gift certificate to my favorite restaurant/brewery on Haight Street, and a handknit cashmere and alpaca skinny scarf that I loooooove!

Cards

Having fun sewing on cards for the first time!

Not an Easter shot, but. . .

This is Autumn from two Halloween's ago when we were living down in Monterey, CA. I had just adopted her from the SPCA and as usual had millions of pumpkins around for Halloween.

So yesterday while I should have been drowning myself in green beer with friends like I had planned, I was home in bed trying not to puke. Greg's been feeling sick off an on for a week now, and I guess some of the sick germs finally rubbed off on me. I feel a bit better today luckily and am going to try heading off to work. We finally saw the Incredibles the other night and this weekend will start Season 4 of The Sopranos. I have 5 Easter boxes to fill and pack and send off this weekend too so I'll be a busy bunny (my goal is to not eat a chocolate for every one I put in a box!).

Jewelry

Good mail day! My order from here arrived. I fell in love with these beads and have started my own glass menagerie! Turned a few things into wearables and am just enjoying playing around with the others, setting them up in little scenes. If I only had a decent camera I would take more photos as these don't come close to showing the extreme cuteness of these little guys.

Pastel birds

Boxes to send goodies in to internet pals.

Really lil' felt bunny

Bun #2

Two cute bunny butts.

Off to work now. Of course it is sunny and gorgeous outside after being overcast most of the whole weekend. Why does it have to be that way?! I'll post a photo tomorrow of the cute shipping boxes I decorated last night to send off Easter goodies in. Have a great day.

Lil' felt bunny

Ok so if you weren't expecting me to make a felt bunny for Easter then you don't know me so well! I think I'll make a few different ones since I'm participating in Operation Haremail (so excited about that!), and have a few sweet little people in my life that might like a felty bun.

My mom was visiting for the weekend to drop off some boxes and we have officially started Project Garden '06. We'll see what flowers and veggies and other innocent plants I manage to kill this year! We also made pear upside-down cake (so yummy) and tried to introduce her rabbit to my two which was interesting. Today Greg had to work and so I'm home sewing bunnies and hopefully will visit my neighbor twinbabes later on.

Whatsit

Inspired (obviously for anyone who has already seen Claire's pears) by these. Pictures of these adorable things keep popping up everywhere online so I had to make something similar for myself. It's not really a pin cushion, or a piece of fruit, or anything really, but it is cute and springy and that's all that I've cared about lately.

Fruit bag

I made this bag over the weekend and look! The zipper is halfway decent!

Inside. I used some of that fruity fabric for the lining which inspired the felt lemons on the front. Springy!

I bought this shirt last week and just wish I had the heart to cut it up to use the pretty fabric. It is much prettier in person than in the photo. (Ann Taylor if anyone is interested, I always check out their clearance and sale stuff since I pass by the store every day on my way to and from work!)

Bunny fuzz

Sunny

The clearance fabrics were an additional 66% off this weekend so I couldn't resist. Also couldn't pass up adding a new color for my wool felt collection, some webbing, and cute ladybug and kitty cat buttons. I had spring and summer on my mind because we have had the most delightfully sunny and lovely weekend and so I'm ready to start crafting in bright colors to keep my mood up. Greg and I had lunch on the beach today it was so nice out!

Random other news:
*Greg has re-injured his knee, this time worse than before unfortunately, so he's scheduled for surgery in early April. It's a simple procedure and he should be ok within a couple of months but of course he's bummed about not being able to play sports and the whole pain and limping thing is not so fun either.

*My mom is coming to live in the Bay Area (yippee!!!) and will be moving in with us in a few weeks while she looks for a job and gets settled. Bella is going to be in heaven as grandma spoils her so bad.

*Soon I will be sharing extreme close-ups of my two bunnies frantically lapping up water from their water bottle thingy. Rabbit mouths are so funny looking. I know you all can't wait!

Inspired

This doll was inspired by this lady. I have been admiring her gorgeous dolls for a few months and wanted to make my own version of one.

These birds were inspired by these bird decals that I have been wanting for almost a year now. I finally decided to try and make my own. The inset in the photo is to show that I used a soft textured suede-like fabric so I keep rubbing them each time I walk by the wall. I have all these ideas now about making these wall decals for kid's rooms and using a huge variety of textures and hanging them low on the walls - interactive wall art for kids!

Drink?

I really haven't been drinking at all tonight. I was sincerely trying to make a cute pouch-thingy and ended up with a puffy, not-very-nice thing that I didn't know what to do with. Then it occured to me that the size and shape would be almost perfect to cuddle a beer. Of course the idea is that it's a snap-pouch, which doesn't work with the beer, but I'll take a beer anyday over a messed up pouch. Ok, I'm obviously tired and need to go to bed. But Greg is making me watch one more episode of Soprano's (we're in the beginning of the 3rd season now) so we can return the dvd tomorrow.

Buds

Blurry pics of our friend's kid with the green panther I made for last month's Month of Softies project. Do kids ever stop moving so you can take a good pic of them? Ever?
