Up in the trees

Finished last night - my newest strange felt creature. He's big and cute (in his own way) and he's spotted from behind. Greg unfortunately likes to rain on my parade and claims the spots make him look diseased, but I don't think so. At least I hope not!

Bird in motion

Felt bird I made tonight on a whim. I had a quick vision of lots of bird softies hanging from the ceiling with invisible wire, but this is what I ended up with.

Pink purse

As requested by my mom. My second pattern bag!

Stills needs ironing to try and make it lay better.

Uno

Just a little love from Uno today. I haven't had time to craft much this week. I saw Les Mis last night and am headed to the Asian Art Museum for the special Tibet exhibit tonight after work so my next purse and felty toy will have to keep waiting sadly on my desk to be finished.

Oh! And I booked my flight for Portland yesterday so I'll be leaving next Friday to visit a friend and I can't wait. Any crafty store advice for Portland would be great since I'll have some free time.

Foil medusa

A combo of self-portrait Tuesday (it's still Tuesday on my coast) and what I'm doing right now. Just adding a little fun to my hair. Will see how it turns out in an hour. . .

My first

My first purse! Using my very first pattern! Woo! I am thrilled and even though I wanted so badly to shred those super fine beige pages into a million pieces more than a few times when the instructions didn't make sense or just left me hanging altogether, now I am overjoyed and can't wait to try my next pattern.

Greg's first purse hat! I handed Greg the purse as soon as I finished it to share in my excitement about graduating from tote bags to actual purses, and he immediately stuck it on his head and continued with his business of messing around on the computers.

My first round zucchini! I certainly wasn't expecting these when I planted my vegetables this spring but it would seem that I accidently picked up a new variety of zucchini instead of the usual kind. It's taken us so long to figure out what the hell was growing on this plant that we let these cute round varieties get way too big apparently. But, lucky for us, there are lots of smaller ones still growing that we will cut at the perfect time to turn them into beautiful containers for yummy stuffing of some kind.

Weekend project

Finished the glass mosaic table that I mentioned before here. In general mosaic isn't my style as far as looks go, but I do love cutting the glass and laying out a design and the finished results once you grout it, so as long as I always have someone to claim my work then it's all good.

And a sincere thanks for all the birthday wishes, I love when you leave me little messages so I don't feel so much like I'm talking to myself!

The big (or not) two-seven

Hey! It's my birthday today! And it's a good birthday since I haven't reached that point of dreading my birthdays yet, and hope I never will. So this post is just a selfish and obvious request for comments!

My banana art experiment

Per my post last week. . .

A close-up of the end result.

Tree with squirrel

At my work the sweet lady who cleans our office has started to bring her daughter with her a few nights a week. I think she mainly sits in our conference room and does homework or draws. Yesterday morning when I showed up for work this cute picture had been left at our front desk.

So last night I made a quick tote bag for Anna embroidering her daughter's design on the front. I hope she likes it when she finds it tonight in our office!

Closer view of my embroidery which leaves a lot to be desired!

Can it be vacation every day?

My weekend was pure enjoyment. Big Sur was as beautiful and scenic as ever, and at the last minute we added a night's stay in Carmel on Saturday to break up the drive which turned out to be the best decision. We spent both evenings, one in Carmel, the other at Treebones in Big Sur, swimming and relaxing under the stars in heated pools that we had all to ourselves. That both places happened to have heated pools outside that no one else was in still amazes me - it was too perfect! My photo set is below.

We're now hoping to camp again in the next month since we had forgotton how much fun is it. Anyone that knows of a good camping place within driving distance from the Bay Area let me know. Also, at the hotel I took my first mirror self-portrait. I seem to remember there is either a flickr group or some project or other that is all about taking your own photo in mirrors?

Coming up: I finally bought my first pattern! I'm afraid to open it of course, but I got the fabric and notions I think I'll need to attempt a piece from it (it's a purse pattern) so I'm going to try it one day soon. Also have made progress on that glass mosaic, and I did the banana experiment (link in a post from last week)!

Happy weekend

Just finished this tote, the first one I've made in a little while.

Stopped by the Joann's big sale this morning. . . 50% wool felt!

In a few hours Greg and I are heading down to Big Sur for camping! I'll be back with photos next week.

Sun

I woke up a few minutes ago and walked into the living room to see Bella and Pepper like this. It's not uncommon to find them sunning together but I still always think it's just so adorable.
